It’s official. We have made a deal for the film rights to Echo with Watchmen/Hellboy producer Lloyd Levin. The deal was outed today by Variety. Needless to say, I’m very pleased about this. More details later but, my plan is to get Echo made as a movie, and SiP on tv (think HBO). This SDCC, my agent, Nick Harris, will start the push for SIP tv. Selling Echo will help because Echo is easy to explain, SiP isn’t. You have to read all of SiP to get it, and who wants to read a 2200 page story?
Meanwhile, Robyn and I are already in San Diego, getting ready for the convention. I haven’t seen the SiP Omnibus yet. Supposed to be at our booth tomorrow in time for the open. We have less than 200 left unsold before the show opens. We might sell all those here at SDCC. If you want one, now may be your last chance to order one online before they’re gone. Robyn is keeping track of orders online in order to know how many she can sell here at the show. I haven’t even seen this book from the printer yet and it’s almost sold out. They better be good, huh?!
OH MY GOODNESS!! HOW COOL! AND CONGRATULATIONS ON THAT =DDD
i’m so happy.
Yeah! That is wonderful!
The movie deal and tv goal is the best news I’ve heard since the release of the omnibus!! I LOVE the mini-series/tv series idea! Congratulations on everything!
Great News! Hopefully they will do a strong and faithful adaptation. Echo would make a rather interesting movie!
Have a great time at Comic-Con. I wish I was going
CONGRATS!
IF SIP IS GOING TO BE A TV SERIES, I CAN’T WAIT! SIP IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE NOVELS EVER, IT TOUCHES ON SO MANY DIFFERENT THEMES/TOPICS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK!
At the point I read this aloud, my roommate said ‘So … we’re getting HBO, right?’ and then we devolved into an argument about how SIP really is hard as hell to explain to the uninitiated. I suggest you do what I did to my brother: Lock them in a room with the comics for a day. They emerge a beautiful butterfly fanboy.
Congratulations, indeed! Very glad for you, and here’s to avoiding Development Hell, cheers!
We’re all thinking alike – we each “discovered” the great Echo, now the world will know.
A million congrats, Terry!
Congrats!!!!!! This is so exciting!
Fantastic!! I’m loving Echo and think it would make a great movie, but a SiP TV show would be fantastic!!! Congrats, Terry!!!
awesome news!!!!
and hey, when SiP is made into a tv series, please bring me over to audition as the fat lecherous guy who made inappropriate advances to Francine and Casey several times…!!!
It IS hard to explain. I try time and time again and the only working solution I’ve found is to make them read the books. Once they start, that’s when they get it. As for the movie/tv show, we trust you to make sure they won’t screw anything up, Terry.
“and who wants to read a 2200 page story?”
Those of us buying the Omnibus?
And I did buy it online as I am not going to ComicCon and knew that there was no way that it would still be available afterwards.
One of the best Comic Stories ever in what will most likely be it’s greatest presentation ever. I just couldn’t afford to take a chance on missing out (especially with how low the print run sounded).
Btw, this is my first ever post to you, here or anywhere else. I have been with you since SIP Volume II #9 and have always been reluctant to post as there’s just no way that I could ever properly say how wonderful SIP was.
But I just spent $175, so what the heck, I’ll throw caution to the wind and give you a proper Thank You.
Please keep doing what you do so well and I hope that you enjoy ComicCon!
Oh my god this is so beautiful! is like the cherry on the top!!…I would have to tackle down the cable guy for free HBO, and be in the constant look for the movie..
Thank you Terry, you are a genius!
Very cool! What’s the minimum amount of time it takes for a project to go from “film right are sold” to “I’m going to my local multiplex to see this next week?”
“who wants to read a 2200 page story?”
US! And we did! This is fantastic news, Terry! Can’t wait to see both of your visions on the screen.
Congratulations. Great to see you being rewarded.
“who wants to read a 2200 page story?”
are you kidding me?
GRATS on the movie deal! have fun at the convention! someday ill save up the $$$$$$$$$$ to go one year
still doing the happy dance in the back parking lot!!!!!!!!
How do the SiP Omnibus’ look? You mentioned you wouldn’t be seeing them until you arrived at SDCC. Hopefully they are as sweet as ever.
I haven’t written in before, but Echo has been, since the beginning, one of my favourite books that I’m practically giddy to read with each new issue. To hear that a movie deal has been made is very exciting! I can’t wait to hear and see on your blog how the SiP Omnibus has turned out, because I pre-ordered it! Please make sure to package them very well when you start shipping out. I’m in Canada, and packages coming from US to Canada really get more postal handling than you’d expect. I want this incredible package to arrive all new and minty fresh!
That is fantastic news. I had heard a rumour but also know how unreliable the internet can be, so I’m so glad it’s official. I can’t wait to see Echo and SiP in a new format!
Hell Yeah!
SIP in TV! Wonderful. Echo as a Movie! Even better! Marvel Films and Warner/DC prepare yourselves to see a movie that will win an Oscar.
Now, just an idea: Do you know who would be great as Julie? You read my mind:
Mary Louise Parker.
Is that a great idea or what?

… I knew it!
I was chatting with my best friend, the other day, dreaming about the chances to see SiP on the screen, but, yeah, on TV is even better!
Ideas about who will play Katchoo’s role? My friend and I have a suggesion!
You’d better supervise everything, and make sure they get it right! SiP is pretty much my favorite thing on earth right now because of the place I’m at in life, and I cling to its beauty and suspense, and if that goes away, if that is disrupted at all when it is TV-tized, I swear I will wreak all nine flavors of…well, you get the point. Oh, and please…write the script yourself. And make sure that whatever company you sign with is going to give you all the necessary seasons of it; it would be a shame for something like this to wind up a martyr like Firefly. (Sorry – I’m a little passionate about this. Do forgive me.)
Best of luck!
Kate
