I was genuinely thrilled to receive an email informing me I’d won the 2012 Adamson International Award. This is the highest honor a cartoonist can achieve in Sweden, a country known for its art culture, where there is no shortage of fantastic cartoonists.
A couple of weeks later I received the statuette and diploma, both which arrived in perfect condition—this is one tough little dude. He appears to be handcarved and skillfully painted with the artisan’s signature on the bottom. What a wonderful piece of art in itself! Robyn and I loved him the minute we saw him and he now occupies a place of honor in the studio. We call him Adamson, of course. I guess he approves of me or he wouldn’t be here, but the look on his face as he watches me work, it’s like “Really? You’re going to go with that are ya?” Funny.

So, I just wanted to say how grateful I am for the recognition. It means a lot to me to think my work not only found its way to Sweden, but somebody there liked it as well. I am truly honored.
